Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including weapons control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
